To travelers from around the world visiting Narita Airport, the gateway to Japan.
Artizan Inc. presents "Chidori," a cherry blossom art installation that transcends conventional displays to deeply touch the hearts of all who see it. "Chidori" was born from a profound desire to protect and pass down Japan's 1,500-year-old traditional crafts to future generations. By harmonizing ancient techniques like Echizen Washi paper and "Chidori-goshi" woodworking with cutting-edge, eco-friendly recycled materials, it sends a powerful message of sustainability and cultural preservation to the world. Crafted with the same world-class artistry and sustainable philosophy as our masterwork presented to H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, this installation stands as a testament to the global resonance of Japanese beauty.
The Essence of "Chidori": Echizen Washi and Hyper-Realistic Sculpting
The Essence of "Chidori": Echizen Washi and Hyper-Realistic Sculpting
At the heart of "Chidori" lies the pursuit of "MORE THAN REAL"—a beauty that surpasses nature itself. The delicate cherry blossom petals are meticulously handcrafted using "Rakusui-shi," a specific type of Echizen Washi paper boasting a 1,500-year history from Fukui Prefecture. This traditional paper, characterized by its intricate water-drop patterns, beautifully diffuses light to create an ethereal atmosphere. Complementing the blossoms is our proprietary hyper-realistic sculpting technology, which perfectly replicates the vital, dynamic textures of a real cherry tree trunk, including natural cracks and moss. This uncompromising dedication to craftsmanship ensures that the art piece remains eternally beautiful, replacing disposable fresh flowers with a permanent, sustainable masterpiece.
Sustainable Innovation: Traditional Woodworking and Recycled Glass
Sustainable Innovation: Traditional Woodworking and Recycled Glass
"Chidori" is a testament to our commitment to environmental preservation (SDGs) without sacrificing artistic integrity. The foundation features "Chidori-goshi," a traditional nail-less wooden lattice technique originating from the Hida region, expertly crafted in a complex 3D structure using scrap wood generated during the milling of premium domestic Japanese Cypress (Hinoki). Below this rests "Minamo," an original design glass inspired by a Noh stage and a "Hanaikada" (flower raft) floating beautifully on the water's surface, forged entirely from 100% recycled fluorescent tubes. Set upon a base of Kurokawa iron—intentionally left uncoated to embrace natural aging—it achieves a high-level harmony of aesthetic texture, strength, and environmental friendliness. It is a new form of art that proposes a sustainable future.
Royal Recognition: Acclaimed in the Principality of Monaco
Royal Recognition: Acclaimed in the Principality of Monaco
The unrivaled quality of Artizan’s Washi cherry blossoms has garnered international acclaim, making history in the Japanese display industry. In 2026, a bespoke installation (the Enishizakura lineage) was created for the 20th-anniversary celebration of diplomatic relations between Japan and Monaco. Beautifully coloring the Monaco Japanese Garden overlooking the blue Mediterranean Sea, and creating a gorgeous scenery as if cherry blossoms were in full bloom, it was presented to H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco. The breathtaking art piece received the highest honors, with Her Imperial Highness Princess Akiko of Mikasa praising its elegance, stating that one could almost feel the petals gently falling. This royal recognition serves as a testament to the unparalleled artistry and prestige of our creations, filling the space graced by "Chidori" with world-class beauty and profound cultural significance.

Artist Profile: Eiji Tanaka
Artist Profile: Eiji Tanaka
Eiji Tanaka is the visionary 3D Sculptor, Installation Artist behind "Chidori," and the founder of Artizan Inc. Deeply captivated by the fleeting yet overwhelming beauty of Japan's four seasons, Tanaka has dedicated his life's work to the themes of spring's iconic "cherry blossoms" and winter's "snow" (incorporating advanced artistic expressions of artificial and real snow)—both delicate natural phenomena that vanish in an instant. He has constantly pursued expressions that evoke the true essence of these phenomena as a "MORE THAN REAL" experience. His artistic philosophy is rooted in the ancient Japanese spirit of "Wa" (harmony) and a profound respect for nature. Questioning the commercial decoration cycle of building and discarding, he pioneered a new genre of sustainable art that harmonizes traditional craftsmanship with modern eco-friendly technologies. Through his creations, Tanaka aims not only to resolve environmental issues but also to protect Japan's cultural heritage, sharing a message of peace and enduring beauty with the world.
